POSITION SUMMARY:   This position works with the substance use, mental health, and criminal justice population by providing detoxification, medication management, recovery counseling, mental health services, and linkage to other Bridgeway Center, Inc. (BCI) services. This position works alongside counselors to provide individual and group counseling services, teaching strategies for living a substance free life and aiding in establishing a relapse prevention plan as part of a long-term approach to recovery.

The clients served in this program have a variety of criminogenic, social, and psychiatric needs which are addressed through coordination between BCI Forensic Counselors, Case Managers, and other external agencies.

The applicant selected for this position must be comfortable routinely working in a team setting and be able to manage the clients on the unit.  

The Detoxification (Detox) Unit is funded by revenue appropriated by the State of Florida and Okaloosa County and your employment is contingent upon continued funding of this program.

Recovery Nurses provide hands-on care to patients with varying degrees of mental illnesses and/or developmental disabilities. They perform a vital, front-line function as they observe, treat, and interact with patients. They carry out the Prescribers’ orders and coordinate care and services as needed. They report back on how the treatment is working or any unusual symptoms that need professional attention.

BCI Recovery Nurses take part in both the planning and implementing of patient Treatment Plans. Tasks will include interviewing patients, assisting patients with questions about their medications, make referrals to other internal BCI departments, assist Prescribers with daily tasks, and gather information to assist the Prescriber.

New associates receive training, mentoring, and coaching throughout the on-boarding process. This is a weekday position with no evenings, holiday, or weekend work.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    Clear and Active FL Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) AND be able to obtain a HIV/AIDS 501 Certification as needed. Specific experience in psychiatric treatment is preferred. Spanish-speaking or Bilingual applicants are a plus, but not required.

Applicant must be able to pass an Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) Medicaid and Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Level II background check, drug screen, and a Tuberculosis (TB) test. Applicant must be at least twenty-one (21) years old and have a valid Florida Driver’s License with no more than three (3) points on their driving record to be insured under BCI’s automobile insurance policy.

  • Provide assistance to Providers.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) software for patient medical record
  • Complete documentation within required timeframes
  • Monitor Substance Abuse withdrawals symptoms as well as Psychiatric progress notes for actionable items.
  • Processes medication requests and collaborate with Prescribers
  • Document medication record to include any changes or revisions
  • Completes prior authorizations for patients as needed
  • Completes Outcome measures upon client admission and discharge.
  • Other tasks as needed.

    WORK LOCATION:  Fort Walton Beach (FWB)

    WORK HOURS: Three (3) – twelve (12) hour Shifts 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. – rotating every 3rd weekend.

    WAGE:  The wage for this position is $26.00 per hour.

    SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL:   A shift differential allows additional compensation for associates who are scheduled to work certain shifts. The Evening shift [7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.] differential is $2.00 per hour in addition to your normal hourly wage.
