POSITION SUMMARY:     

The mission of One Hopeful Place (OHP) is to be the front door into permanent housing and to end the cycle of homelessness for those experiencing housing loss in Okaloosa County.

Bridgeway Center, Inc. (BCI) is seeking candidates who want to make a difference in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness in Okaloosa County.

The OHP Shelter Coach will provide direct support, oversight, and interventions at OHP. Great entry-level position for candidates interested in Human Services. Responsibilities include Completing rounds at OHP, providing recovery-based support to individuals, video camera observation, inspecting bunk/common areas, encouraging community building and maintaining shelter stay, providing consistent staff presence for individuals to access support, addressing conflict or concerns, awareness for building safety, etc.

Applicants must be outgoing and enjoy working with the public, professional, and para-professional team. Have the ability to collaborate and communicate with BCI departments and external stakeholders. Must be able to multi-task and remain professional at all times to ensure that each client has a positive and helpful therapeutic experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • High School Diploma OR GED.

PREFERRED:

  • Specific experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Lived experience as an adult in recovery for a minimum of two (2)-years from a mental health and/or substance use condition to be eligible to be certified through the Florida Certification Board as a Peer.
  • Bilingual/bicultural English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

Applicant must be able to pass an Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) Medicaid and Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF Level II background check, drug screen, and a Tuberculosis (TB) test. Applicant must be at least twenty-one (21) years old and have a valid Florida Driver’s License with no more than three (3) points on their driving record to be insured under BCI’s automobile insurance policy.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:     

Some of the job tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the safety of participants and property by checking common areas and surrounding property.
  • Communicate with incoming and outgoing staff about pending issues or activities using communications logs and emergency personnel as needed.
  • Interact with individuals professionally; respond to the needs of individuals as appropriate.
  • Assist in conflict resolution between individuals and oversight of compliance with OHP expectations.
  • Maintaining building cleanliness at all times.
  • Assist in OHP of supplies, including daily food and kitchen supply orders.
  • Other office duties and data entry as needed.
  • Video camera observation.
  • Facilitate community-building activities and interact with residents to build community.
  • Participate in in-service training.
  • Assist with preparing bunks for new individuals.
  • Aid new individuals in acclimating to OHP operations.

WORK LOCATION:    One Hopeful Place (OHP) – Fort Walton Beach (FWB)

WORK HOURS:      Sunday – Wednesday; 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

WAGE:       The wage for this position is $15.00 per hour.
